To learn about the key difference between the two Agents, check out this article: Difference between the Revealed Agent and the Hidden Agent

Switching from the Revealed Agent to the Hidden/Stealth Agent

Step 1: Remove the current Revealed Agent

You can find instructions here: How to uninstall the agent.

Step 2: Install the new Hidden Agent

1. Install the Hidden Agent by following the instructions here: How to download and install the Teramind Agent. Note that if you are downloading the Agent from the dashboard, select NO when asked, Do you want your users to know that they are being monitored?.

2. After installing the hidden agent, you can disable monitoring for the old employee account used for the Revealed Agent to free up a license because the hidden agent will automatically create new employee accounts based on the username of the logged on users. You can find the instructions to disable monitoring for employee accounts here: How to delete or restore an employee / user / computer.

For domain users (i.e. Active Directory), the Hidden Agent may not automatically create a new employee account in your dashboard because the user may be logging in with a domain user account (such as [email protected]) that matches the email address of the existing employee account in your dashboard.

Install the Revealed Agent by following the instructions here: How to download and install the Teramind Agent. Note that if you are downloading the Agent from the dashboard, select YES when asked, Do you want your users to know that they are being monitored?.

Step 3: Migrate the user or create a new user

Migrate the existing user

If you would like to migrate the existing employee account created by the Hidden Agent, you can set passwords on the existing employee accounts so employees can then log in using the email address of their profile. If a user with the hidden agent currently installed appears as username@computername in your dashboard, that is the login they will use for the revealed agent.

To learn how to change the password of a user, check out this article: How to change another user’s / employee’s password.

Create a new user

If you would like to create a new user instead of migrating the existing user, please do the following:

1. Add a new employee by following the instructions here: How to add a new user / computer.

2. After adding the employee, you can disable monitoring for the old employee account used for the Hidden Agent. This will also free up a license. You can find the instructions here: How to delete or restore an employee / computer?
