Summary

How much storage is required for screen recordings depends on multiple factors. For example, what options are used on the Monitoring Settings > Screen, user activities, number of screens, display resolutions, what kind of content is displayed on the screen, type of graphics card used (e.g., integrated vs discrete), etc.

For normal office work with low screen activity, memory consumption will be relatively small - up to 1 GB per day*, per user.

However, with active use of applications or video, consumption can reach several gigabytes per day*, especially on high-resolution screens.

Low activity scenarios, using grayscale and lower FPS settings, can reduce memory consumption.

Estimated usage ranges:

  • from 50 MB to 300 MB per day*, per user with low activity

  • from 1 GB to 2 GB per day* per user with moderate activity (including browsing with images and video)

  • from 1.5 GB to 14 GB per day* per user with high activity and higher settings (e.g., ~2560x1440 resolution, 3 FPS, Modern Screen Grabbing ON).

Highest Memory Usage Observed with 2560x1440 resolution, 3 FPS, Modern Screen Grabbing ON, Active Window Movement: ~22.6 GB per day* (Color).

Lowest Memory Usage Observed with 1920x1080 resolution, 2 FPS, Modern Screen Grabbing OFF, Idle with Simple Text: ~50 MB per day* (Grayscale).

*Here, per day means an 8-hour workday

Using 1920x1080 resolution, 3 FPS, Modern Screen Grabbing ON requires between 1.5 GB and 115 GB per user per month, depending on the content displayed on the screen and user activity.

If the user has a high resolution display (e.g., 2K/QHD display and discrete graphics card, turning on the option "MODERN SCREEN GRABBING" may save disk space usage. Otherwise, turn it off to have effective disk space usage.

Detailed Test Reports

We ran some tests using different types of content (see the examples below) and here are the test results:

Sample Data Used

Example 1: The user is idle with a simple text window on the desktop:

Example 2: The user is idle with a complex image on the desktop:

Example 3: The user is active and moving a window all the time:

Example: 4: The user is playing a YouTube video:

Other Relevant Information

You can adjust retention policies and recording preferences in the monitoring settings to reduce the storage requirement.

If you go with the Cloud deployment option, we got you covered for 6 months of screen recordings.

For information of how to configure the storage for your deployment check out the following sections on the deployment guides:
