New Elasticsearch 7 indexes now default to 5 shards, the same proven default from Elasticsearch 6.x, so your mined data is distributed across more shards from day one. The result: room to grow well beyond the previous per-shard limits, and stronger protection of your OCR and data-mining results as your data volume scales.
